decent earplug workaround

Here is a plug that seems to balance internal and external noise at 9dB attenuation. The standard earbud pieces seem as effective as custom.

I cannot seem to post a pic from iphone. Take a standard earbud piece. Insert the filter into the small hole. Add silicone cement around the stem and body to make it more secure. Let cure.

Makes a very small plug that stays put and comes out by rolling a finger over it. Sound balance is pretty good. Trumpets turned down nicely.

What did you use as the filter

Now back to my desktop which may help with a pic.

So the filters are Etymotic 9dB. These have a flared tenon that squeezes nicely into the silicone tube of a standard earbud. I used to have a custom set of 25dB filters, but these mask outside noise so much that head noise gets too loud. I'm pleased the 9dB seem about right. And I'm very pleased with the effectiveness of the earbud bits, and with the cost compared to custom molds!

Let's see if I can get a pic in now...
