Hello all! I'm new to this forum.
For years I've been planning to start learning a tbone and it looks like now I'm ready for it but I've got one proplem.
I've got very vulnerable hands and often I get all kind of RSI's from the static hand position.
I'm fine playing any musical instruments that assume hands in constant motion but once I start learning/playing an instrument that requires a static hold I'm in trouble.
I'm very fine with guitar and piano, no problems there.
However I've been many a time in trouble with trumpet that I've been playing for the last 9 years. Once I settle on a certaing hold with my left hand after some time I develop some RSI and it takes several months to heal that condition then.
I visited a medical therapist specializing in the hand RSI problems and after examination and test she made a conclusion that it's rather the norm for me.
So, my big concern with starting on a tbone is an opportunity to develop some new kind of RSI in my left hand that takes a static position in tbone playing.
What do you friends think of all this and have you ever met people having hand RSI problems similar to mine?
Any thoughts are welcome!

There are a variety of left hand positions you can use and it may be enough to experiment with them so you can change as necessary. I do that myself.

Re: TBone static hand RSI problems
I’ve been dealing with left wrist and arm problems for a while.
1. Put down the phone. Yep, I know it’s not very heavy.
2. A Get A Grip helps a bit. Maybe check out handgrips eg Get A Grip, Axe Handle, Edwards, Rath, NeoTech.
3 More than a mere grip, consider an Ergobone.
4. Talk to your physio about stretching and strengthening.

I use an Edwards bullet brace on my bass, and the loaner I have also has one. There are other good products like those mentioned above and the list includes a Neotech device and the Rath Hand Brace.
