I like the curved hand grip on my Lawler so much that I was wondering if if was possible to purchase an aftermarket grip that would fit a 3 b slide. It seems that if would be an easy thing to get, but I'm not sure where to start.

I know Roy is busy (building a horn for me!). Does he do smaller jobs like this?

It used to be fairly common to solder curved pieces to the existing braces. Any capable tech should be able to do that.

I have curved hand grips on my horns. There are photos in my profile. Kevin Powers from Michigan Musical made them. The heat of installing it requires realigning the slide. He is tops at that.
Also the stuff they use for auto wire loom covers makes a nice pad.

Kanstul sells a curved brace assembly that could easily be adapted with a little work.
Also some stuff called plastimorph/instamorph that is easily formed & attached to a hand slide.
Jupiter has a plastic grip on their student horns that could probably be adapted to a small bore horn.

This doesn't address the OP because it's currently limited to large bore horns and basses, but I thought it was really interesting.

Anyone get to try one of these yet?

Yes I did. They were across the gangway from me at the ITF in Iowa. I held it a few times and it was indeed comfortable, in fact I was going to buy one but they left early and I was with someone when they left. I could recomend it for your purposes... Doug

I have the Wise' grip on my 88H and it is fantadtic! They don't fit smaller horns yet, but they are working on it. Hopefully they will have the commercial size tenor grip out soon. The grip costs $25. Not much to spend. It snaps in and you're done. No repair work at all. Definitely works well for me!

There was a buddy of DJ Kennedy's who was making curved handgrips. I loaned him one from a Williams to use as a copy. I do not remember his name but I bet DJ would and have contact info for him as well.

I believe that was Aaron Chandler of Acme Trombones in St. Louis, MO, who also does KILLER slide setups.
