I've received a number of requests from a variety of players about what options are still available for summer. I thought maybe we should compile a list of these events in one place for easy access. So with that in mind, if anyone is aware of something, post it here and I'll edit this post so that it has all of the information. Let's include the following information:

Madison Early Music Festival

• Tangential information about the area, event itself, etc.: Registration is open for the Madison Early Music Festival workshop, which has great sackbut teachers in Greg Ingles and Liza Malamut. Those who don't own a sackbut might be able to get one on loan from the festival if requested in advance. It's always tons of fun - very intensive in terms of playing and learning, a nice collegiate atmosphere with a mix of amateur players and very advanced students and pros, a great and varied course offering, beautiful location on the UW-Madison campus, good local beer and ice cream by the lake everyday. Plus you get a free pass for the week's concerts, they're always world class and stellar. Course offering ranges from chamber music in various formations to All-Festival group with all participants and faculty playing in the same huge "orchestra" and choir with acting and dancing usually involved in the show, and from interesting theory lectures on notation or history to introductory classes in recorder, bagpipes, improvising Renaissance polyphony (with yours truly), baroque dance, etc. The focus of the whole festival is mostly 16th and 17th century, so the trombones have a very big place.

Trombone faculty are Charles Reneau, Bass Trombone in the Oregon Symphony and Carson Keeble, Trombone instructor at Oregon State University. other faculty are members of the Oregon Symphony or alternates.
Chamber music and Orchestral playing
This is a great camp for young brass players in an incredible setting. Students are divided by ability level into Brass Quintets and some other groups, all coached by working professional musicians. There are like instrument classes and ensembles daily and one on one coaching every evening. Check out the website for more information.

Illinois Summer Youth Music Pre-College Trombone, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

This program, for senior high trombonists, provides the opportunity to develop advanced technical and interpretive skills in a variety of musical styles and genres through masterclasses, individual lessons, chamber ensembles and private practice time. Students are exposed to a wide range of repertoire and learn about diverse facets of trombone literature and performance practice. Trombone students will have the opportunity to perform in brass quintets, trombone choir, and a brass choir coached by ISYM faculty members as part of the ISYM Pre-College Academy.

Eligibility

For students completing grades 8-12.
Application Materials

Application Form
Submit a 5 minute recording of your playing. Please fill out this form. Audio or video (cell phone quality) is acceptable, and your recording should contain 2 contrasting selections of your choice. Recordings will be reviewed beginning May 21. (Please note that this is for placement purposes only.)
Tuition

Resident - $750 (tuition, room and board)
Commuter - $550 (tuition and lunch only)

Pre- College Scholarship

Students who graduate 11th grade in 2019 and who participate in the below pre-college programs during Summer 2019, will be considered for the ISYM Pre-College Scholarship. This scholarship awards $2,000 to the selected students to attend a Music degree program at Illinois starting in the Fall 2020 term. To receive the award students must apply and be admitted to the University of Illinois with any Music degree as the “first choice” major. The Scholarship will be renewed for a total of four years provided the student stays in good academic standing and make progress to the music degree. Other conditions of the scholarship may be included on official scholarship notice sent after the offer of admission.
Auditions

On opening Sunday, Pre-College Trombonists will have an audition to determine placement in the trombone choir. Check back after January 15, 2019 for audition requirements.

Typical Pre-College Trombone Daily Schedule:

8:15-9:15 am: Warm-Up/ Master Class
9:30-10:30 am: Trombone Choir
10:45-11:45: Pre-College Chamber Music hour (brass quintets and brass choir)
Noon- 1:00: lunch
1:15- 2:15 pm: Small Ensemble rehearsal
2:30- 3:30 pm: Individual Practice
3:45-4:45 pm: Brass Chamber Music Seminar
5:15 pm: Dinner and evening activities
10:30 pm- lights out
