King 3B slide repair/recommendation

Hi there,
I recently bought a used King 3B despite knowing it had two small holes in the outer slide. Trying to save myself money I took it to be fixed. Still waiting on the estimate and if they can even do it but the man said they might not be able to fix it. The hole is right in the crook beside the water key and another in the actual slide part of the outer slide.
I can buy a new crook for the slide but this will only fix one of the holes.
I can’t find any used slides or parts anywhere as I just need the outer one. Does anyone have any recommendations? Should I look to buy a custom slide? If so from where? Or do you think this is able to be fixed and I should take it to someone else if they can’t fix it.
Thanks!

Outer slide tubes for a 3B should be available from the usual sources for parts. A set of outer tubes and a crook should cost a lot less than a new slide. Forum Member DJ Kennedy would probably have a used replacement slide if that's how you want to go.

Thanks for the reply. I’m pretty new to instrument repairs, are there any recommendations on where to find outer tubes?

Your tech should be able to source parts.

Honestly, might be cheaper to replace the entire slide. Depends on the condition of the other components? If the outer slide has worn through enough to have a hole, I don't know what the rest if the inside of the outer looks like. What do the inner slide tubes look like?

The inner slide tubes seemed fine, there was no visible corrosion which was good. The slide moved pretty well too so hopefully it can be fixed, or I can just find a tube to replace with the crook.

"You" don't find the tube. Your tech finds the tube, and the crook. If they're reputable, they should have an account with Allies Supply. If they don't know about Allied Supply, find another tech.

Sweeney Brass overhauled my slide, replaced tubes and made the leadpipe press-fit. Can't recommend them enough

How did they get your press fit lead pipe to not move around?

They pulled the pipe and put a collar on it. The collar doesn't move around in the tube. FWIW, my pipe was a one piece one, not the two piece pipe I was worried about before the work was done.

I'm not a tech, so, take my opinion with a grain of salt...
Quick fix is a patch. You can use your slide right now and try to find permanent solution (tube, outer or whole hand slide).

Sounds like a good candidate for a Butler carbon-fiber outer slide to me!
