Iām surprised that they even have to advertise that job
I depped/subbed for Chris Mowat a few times back in the 90ās

FFS. That's 20p/hour over the MU's MINIMUM rate. For the "global No. 1 institution for both Music and Performing Arts" (according to their own advert).
And for that 20p they want "a widely recognised and highly respected practitioner, either as a performer or teacher".

Because in those institutions 9 times out of 10 they are already fixed.
Perhaps they are fulfilling the equal opportunity box or perhaps they are genuinely looking for someone new

If the process is anything like that in the US, yes the position needs to be publicly posted even if an internal candidate exists to prevent discriminatory practices and nepotism
