Satin finish option brands

What brand/manufactures make a large bore F attachment trombone in a satin finish? As far as I know, Rath and Edward’s do but they are upwards of 5k.

I've seen a lot of Andalucia trombones in satin finish, I'd imagine that includes their large bore(s).

You can always have a company or tech do it for any large bore you have. I had Scott Sweeney lengthen and satin finish my Kanstul large bore, and it looks/plays great! You can see it on one of his most recent instagram posts!

Sweeney did a satin finish on my King. But you can do it yourself. Just use a brillo pad and go ham.

M&W by Mr. Walker up there does satin finished but his largebore F att horns are over 5k as well. However, his horns are well worth the money imo! I have had the chance to test play a used horn before and it's the horn that dreams are made of. definitely give them a look!!

If you are looking for a NEW horn below 5k with satin finish, it may be a struggle because satin finish has kind of become a custom option/boutique maker option. I know sometimes I see used Shires, Edwards, and Rath parts in satin come up for sale, but it would take a really long time to congregate the specific satin parts that you want.

my my honest suggestion if you really want a satin horn and dont want the bank completely drained is to buy a horn that you like the feel/play of and have a shop/tech satin finish the horn. it would be significantly cheaper than buying a new horn from any of the major modular brands like Shires, Edwards, Rath or the like.

Matt: What's the difference between the "Satin" and "Media Blast" finishes you have listed on your web site? Is one more densely, or more finely, brushed, or is it something else that differs?

It looks like the "Satin" finish is brushed, and you can see the "grain" in the picture posted. Media blasting would be much more uniform in appearance, almost matte with no grain or scratch marks.

Yes. Satin brush is created using a wheel on the buffing machine. Media blast is done using an abrasive media sprayed onto the part. (I don't do media blast bells, as the air pressure warps the rim)
