Saw this last night. Sat in the first row, right in front of Joe, with his bell about ten feet away pointed directly at me, so I got a very personal performance. LOL! He did a nice job on it. It was fun.

I went to the Joe Alessi show last night with a bunch of Sonoma County trombone players and other assorted brass players. An excellent performance by Alessi and pianist and arranger John Dickson, who played a reduced score from the original symphonic score. Dana, you came a long way from LA, glad you enjoyed the concert.

I actually don't live in L.A. anymore, but in the Sierras between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. It was about a 3-hour drive each way, but the self-driving car makes it a breeze. :) Wish I had known you were there, I would have made it a point to say hi. :)

I was at the concert and was very impressed both by the playing and by the composition. Many months ago I had watched/listened to a video of Alessi playing the piece with a wind symphony and it didn't really thrill me. What a difference it is to hear something like this live compared to listening through laptop speakers. I'd like to hear it live with a wind symphony but I think I'd probably like the piano accompaniment better.

Thank you TomWest for posting the notice about this concert. I wouldn't have known about it if I didn't see the notice here.
