King 2115 Seeking Detailed Info

Hi all,

I recently grabbed a 1984/85 king 2115. I'd been looking for one for a very long time; I love those early Chuck Ward design yellow lacquer UMI horns.

I remember on the old forum (now lost to history?) someone had posted an image/PDF of an original brochure/informational ad about the 2115 which listed collaborating artists on it like Alan Kaplan and John Fedchock. Does anyone happen to have a copy of that? I'd love to see it and maybe we could get it posted here for history.

I was also wondering if anyone had parts lists for the 2115 (2b+), Benge 170, and 2103 (3b) horns. I am interested to know which parts they share and which parts are distinct. I have a suspicion they all have different neck pipes or tuning slides but have no idea. I'd love to get an early 170 (one that says "Free Lance" on the bell) at some point.

Thanks in advance!

For development, I do know that Ian McDougall also had a hand in the King 2B+. I was having lessons with him, and he said Yamaha sent people from Japan to get his input. (Several years late, he switched back to his sterling King 2B, then he switched to the Yamaha 697Z after trying Al Kays' horn).

I snuck some notes in on Ian's 2B+ during a lesson when he had to go take a phone call. Man...it was beautiful... I had to put in back down....because I didn't want to know that there was a better horn out there than the old brass HN White 2B I had at the time.... the 2B+ was to die for.

Hmm...might have to search for one myself!

170 and 3B have same bell and tuning slide tapers... don't know if the neckpipes are identical, but the 3B neckpipe starts at a slide-matching .508 ID.

2B+ uses the 2B bell and tuning slide, but a different neckpipe. The 2B (and Jiggs) neckpipe chokes back down to .481 at the start, relative to the .491 lower slide. There's another King neckpipe taper, 2B length and the same diameters over the rear 2/3, but starting at .491 instead. I have one of these on a (.508 bore) King custom from the late 70s/early 80s and strongly suspect that it's the 2115 part, but I haven't measured mine and a 2B+ side by side.
