Edwards Axial Bass Valves Set Compare?

Hi All,

Thinking about heading back to Edwards again after a decade on Shires horns. I played a dependent axial set for a long time but seems they are no longer made. Anyone able to compare the blow/feel between the B454 E vs the B454 HB valve sets?

Anyone able to order a dependent set recently?

It is my understanding they are no longer making dependent valve sets. I inquired about a single valve bass rotor section a few months ago and was told they are not taking custom work at this time.

Have they made any single valve basses in the recent past? The only ones I can think of involved using the single valve adapter for the B454-E. I would assume it might work for the B545, but definitely not the others. Mabye the B454-V-E?

They have made them in the recent past and I am sure will again. Just right now, they are catching up on production of more standard products.
To the OPs question: the E vs HB valve sections play very different. Try both! I don’t want to color your opinion.

Depending on your definition of recent, the B427 is the single version.

I always liked the dependent version of the 454 best, followed by the “VE” section. I have not played a HB version or any of the 502s.

Have they made dependent sets recently? Would still be curious to know your thoughts between the E and HB, I just picked up a T350HB and am really enjoying it.

I'd for one love to hear any opinions on the HB. I've never seen one in the wild and would be curious.

I have had both the dependent and indi Axials.
Have used the CR-E in indi for as well. Sold them off due to the fact I never got comfy with them .
The indi set up works best for me because of the versatility of positions utilizing the Gb side.
That being said- the dependent set-up blows more freely in the upper register and feels more solid as well. Also the F side can feel more spacious.
If you are a dependent set up “fan” the Edwards Axial dependent set up will feel rewarding once you have worked out the specific idiosyncrasies.
