Leadpipes for Kanstul Tenors

Looking into getting some new leadpipes for my Kanstul 1570T .547. Outside of Kanstul, what other leadpipes fit? My shires 2 doesn't thread in all the way, but threads in perfectly to my Kanstul Bass? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has something in a Shires 2 style in either Sterling or Nickel Silver that would fit, I'll take it off your hands as well!

I have noticed the same thing. Sometimes Shires pipes won't thread in all the way on Kanstul trombones. I always suspected that Zig made the thread diameter just a bit smaller so that Kanstul pipes would fit Shires horns, but Shires pipes wouldn't necessarily fit Kanstul horns. I have no evidence that was done deliberately, though.

A good tech could chase the threads on the Shires ring. But there's also the possibility that the Shires pipe has a larger mouthpiece receiver end, and it's actually bottoming out against the edge where the inner slide tube begins. You could determine that by drawing a line with a magic marker and seeing if the ink rubs off in that spot.

Similar thing with Getzen/Edwards and Greenhoe. They have the same threads per inch, but the diameter of the collars are slightly different. Getzen/Edwards pipes fit in the Greenhoe horns but Greenhoe collars are slightly too wide to fit in the Getzen/Edwards horns.

Yes. GH use the same thread spec is Conn. Same TPI as Edwards, larger major diameter.

I have a Kanstul 1570CR and 1588CR. Both are currently fitted with leadpipes made by brassmedic, and I LOVE the copper MV42 leadpipe in my 1750. The 1588 is fitted with a yellow brass ELK8H.

PS. Brad is correct. The issue is often that the receiver area of the pipe is a little heavy, and interferes with the inner slide tube, before it can be screwed down all the way. Use the technique mentioned to see where the interference occurs. It is easy for a tech to sand it down so it can fit correctly

I am playing a Kanstul "L" (Minick Legit) in my Getzen bass at the moment. It came with Shires threading on the collar, a bi-thread adapter makes it work. Before it would go in the slide, I had to spend some quality time with a medium grit sandpaper slimming it down. An M/K Shires threaded pipe required no such "trombone dermabrasion."
