Best lube for part time use?

OK…
I’ve been a multi instrumentalist since I was a little kid.
I am NOT a real Trombone player although I used to be good…quit playing slide for a long time and then got back into it just enough to be TROUBLE.
When I was a kid, i used cold cream on them
I don’t play live. Just recording.
Basically, my horns hang on the wall often for months without being used. Then something pops up where I need them.
I have an F Reynolds and an Old Ambassador (‘vintage horns..’) and have a few Yamaha and Slide-O-Mix on hand as well as a few oils.
The slides get gummy. I know,,,my fault.
A few times I have ended up just cleaning them off a few times and using oil.
But they will often be sticky where I just can’t get good slide vibrato etc.
So besides taking them into the shower on a day they will be used, what’s the smart move?
I also suspect it is from too much residue left on the slide after use.
Would spraying the slide with water and wiping it down after use make the cream be ok?
I generally spray the mouthpiece and blow stuff out and hang it back up.
THANKS!
