Getzen Screw Bell

I’ve been looking into getting a screw bell conversion for my getzen 1052 that I’ve had for about a year now. I love this horn, but because I live in the city and travel a lot, I’ve wanted to cut down on space being taken up by the case. I’ve also heard mostly good things about screw bell conversions. Recently I’ve been having second thoughts about converting the horn. To cut to the chase, I’m wondering if anyone has heard of or played on a getzen trombone with a cut/screw bell, and what have you learned about it? It would really help me out.

Call or email Christan Griego at Edwards/Getzen. He is the most knowledgable person about their products, etc. They are starting to make some screw bell horns. There is a video of him talking about that process on their YouTube channel, so you can get a bit of info there. I recently heard a young Bass Trombonist who was playing a screw bell Edwards - he sounded great, and he won a position with an orchestra just a couple of weeks later on that horn.

I would call Christan and asked for the ring. The bell is fixed on a 1052 so unless you want to mount a whole new bell… just the collar would be easier.
Then find a great repair person.

I got my 1062 bell cut and threaded. I think it played better afterward, particularly in the trigger(s) register.
