Alain Trudel vs Peter Sullivan mouthpiece
Hello team,
I'm using in my tenor trombone Alain Trudel mouthpiece and I'm interesting to buy Peter Sullivan mouthpiece.
What is your opinion between of these??
I mean about articulation, flexibilities etc.
Thanks a lot!!!

I have a Peter Sullivan I don't use I can sell you. I'm in the USA so there would be some postage costs. Will send a PM.

We (not me) can tell you if it's wider, narrower, deeper, shallower, and perhaps differences in rim shape. How that will affect you is impossible to predict. Some people will suggest a lesson with an embouchure specialist; others will suggest just getting the thing and trying for yourself. If you are a relative newbie to playing it won't make much difference -- more practice will be of more use than a big box full of mouthpieces.nkoukouvinos wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 11:31 pm Craign thanks for your suggestion but before to buy it, I want to know about Sullivan mouthpiece how response in articulation, flexibilities, etc.

Re: Alain Trudel vs Peter Sullivan mouthpiece
I've only played the Peter Sullivan briefly, but for me there was not a lot of obvious difference/benefit to what I was already using (6 1/2 AL), so I stuck with that. Per Bruce, I don't think the mouthpiece is a limiter for me at this point.

I don't think you will find a great difference between these two well-made Yamaha signature mouthpieces.
Compared to your Alain Trudel, the Peter Sullivan has a slightly larger Cup I.D., but (I think) a somewhat shallower Cup); similar Throat diameter but a broader Backbore. The Sullivan's Rim is not as rounded as the Trudel. Playing them, you probably won't notice a huge change, though they are indeed "different." Both are fine products from Yamaha.
"Articulation, flexibilities, etc." - since these pieces are somewhat similar, probably as much user-dependent as mouthpiece-dependent. We all interact with our equipment differently.
Why are you interested in changing?

Re: Alain Trudel vs Peter Sullivan mouthpiece
I cannot compare them as I do not have the Sullivan.
However the Trudel is a really nice mouthpiece, if the relatively small rim diameter works for you.
In my opinion it does indeed (I think that's more or less how they advertise it) have a nice combination of relatively full sound but still easy high register. As said if the rim suits you.
Seems to work very well for him at least!

Yes, if a 6.5 size is good for you, and if the rim profile is a good fit for you, the Trudel can be a killer mouthpiece. I started my studies on one, eventually moved to somewhat larger pieces and other designs, but I always ended up coming back to it every couple of years.
