RIP Carl Saunders

One of the all-time great trumpeters. When you got those kind of chops, we gotta check out the live performances. Here's one, which also features trombonist Scott Whitfield. Scott and Carl were/are good friends.

MONSTER improviser. I was in a rehearsal with him probably a month ago, had no idea he was going through health stuff.

It's like losing half the great trumpeters all at once. I do hope his family stumbles on a book manuscript illustrating his improv approach and his technique. Unbelievably, self taught.

I have his Be Bop Big Band CD, incredible musician(s). Sad to hear.
