Sorry to hear of this. We owe him a huge debt for rescuing the Forum when the Online Trombone Journal was planning to shut us down. Then suddenly he stopped funding the Trombone Forum and it went the route of the Titanic. Fortunately Brian set this place up as a "lifeboat". Several of us had tried to get Richard to sell us the old Forum database without success. So all that remains of TTF is what we have here.

RIP, Richard. You are missed.

Sorry to hear this. I remember him writing (blog style) about his experiences playing in a Renaissance Fair ensemble when he lived near Houston. Very amusing, well written stuff.

That fills in a few blanks.

His often-referred-to absence was a presence itself on the old TTF. All I knew of him was Bruce et al's attempts to rouse him. I guess we will never know what that was all about.

57! That makes it all the more mysterious.

Who would have put up with us, especially in the old flame war days?

When we first got started as The Trombone Forum Richard was a major presence. He especially liked to post in The Bunker, which Christine Woodcock (RedHotMama) set up as a place for people to "let down their hair". One persistent meme was a "green fury thong" [sic] that got thrown around the Bunker. We also used to start a new Bunker each year, so the last thing Christine (and later I) did was to wake Richard up and ask him to move to the new Bunker.

Richard shared a lot of experiences in the Renaissance Faire and also an experience being arrested (!). He also had a medical problem that sidelined him for a couple of months just before he disappeared from the Forum (maybe the reason?).

One other trombone related Forum he hosted was Sam Burtis'. Sam's site has also gone AWOL; probably coinciding with Richard's move to the West Coast.

R.I.P. Richard.

Wow. No more RLB? I am coming back to the forum after a long time off, and this is rough news. I benefited so much from this place as a young student…. RIP RLB
