Much difference? I’m assuming the C model is a little bit shallower. Aside from that?

7 has a more V shaped cup, and most importantly has a much smaller throat. The throat is what makes the no-letter pieces a bit useless, IMO.

The rims are also different shapes.

No, it's the same (.230) on both.

...but agreed. I have a 3 that's super comfortable and that I'd like to like more, but it definitely feels like something closer to a 6.5AL/5GS-style throat and backbore would make much more sense with that top half.

The Bach 7 being similar to a 6.5 is the big reason why i swithed to a 7. 7Cs, to me, had a sharp rim which made it unbearable. I think the Bach 7 is an underrated mpc.

You are right! And that's the comparison I meant, even if I didn't know it. I had to stop playing my 3 because the 6.5AL and 5GS just had so much more room for air. My bad.

Even then, I find the 7C just a bit better balanced as a mouthpiece compared to the 7.

My small Bach mouthpieces (12C, 12, 11C, 11, 9, 7C, 7, 6¾C, 6½A, 5, 4, 3) all have (nominally) the same throat diameter: 5.85mm = 0.230 inch. This throat diameter is (too me) much too small for the 5, 4, and 3 sizes, so I have parted company with those pieces.

Interestingly, my Bach 7 piece has a much larger Cup I.D. than specified (measured ~25.25mm Cup I.D. vs spec 24.75mm). Wonder if that's common or just Bach manufacturing variability? :idk:

I have a Bach 7 that plays really nice with my .525 bores. BUT, it has a .250 throat and not the standard .230-234" range. It does not appear to be reworked and is not marked as special. I know it is at least 15 years old, maybe a good bit more(I got it used). The cup ID does appear to be about the normal spec of .97" (24.75mm). I am thinking of getting a 7C type for my .508 bore, but wonder if I should try to stick with a .250 throat? I guess the .230" throat would match the .508 bore better, in theory?

I think it's true that the standard Bach throat (0.230") and backbore are a little tight any way; even more so for a 0.508" or larger bore trombone. Perhaps that's why I prefer the Marcinkiewicz ET4 (Ulyate) piece - it's like a slightly enlarged 7C, with a 0.246" throat. More open throats work much better for me.

I've got a NY 7 that I like a great deal. It is a big, long blank that looks like the new Artisan series. Deep cup, flat, sharp rim. Small throat. It was my main 3rd part big band 'piece for years. I may have a MV 7, but I'd have to look.

I've tried a few 7Cs of various eras. I've never found one I like. For shallow cups, 6 3/4Cs and 11Cs are both better for me.

I’ve measured my Bach 7 and got the same dimensions, so it seems this is what they are.
