The Rolling Stones drummer has passed away at 80 years of age.

Yes indeed, RIP Charlie! I just posted elsewhere about the fact that I had the pleasure of sitting in several times with some jazz friends of mine at the Kingsbury Arms with Charlie on drums. He was a very swingin' jazz drummer and many people have commented on the fact that this is what made him such a great Rock N Roll drummer. My friend Derek Winters' wife Lynn also worked with Charlie at an advertising agency in London before the Stones turned pro.

(Transcribing jazz solos is fraught with difficulties because exact rhythmic notation is well-nigh impossible. So listen carefully because it's the only way to learn how to play jazz trombone so that we can return to the Golden Age.) 8-)
