Josef Matej (1922-1992) was a Czech composer, choirmaster, and trombonist. This little-known concerto in two movements is a marvel of lyricism and technical fireworks, and the way Don Sanders played it was astounding. This performance is from the 1978 Prague International Competition, at which Don was awarded Second Prize. There was no First Prize awarded.
