From this paper
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4659470/
We have shown previously that noroviruses are destroyed on copper alloy surfaces. In this new study, human coronavirus 229E was rapidly inactivated on a range of copper alloys (within a few minutes for simulated fingertip contamination) and Cu/Zn brasses were very effective at lower copper concentration.
[...]
Consequently, copper alloy surfaces could be employed in communal areas and at any mass gatherings to help reduce transmission of respiratory viruses from contaminated surfaces and protect the public health.
But strip off the lacquer and plating.

This has been known for a long time. Every fixture in a physicians office used to be made out of brass, as seen in old navy ships that can still be toured. It kills microbes.

Copper is well-known for this. Silver is even better. Will it protect you? Dunno. But get that SilverSonic anyway. It sure looks cool.

I find playing the trombone is equivalent to self quarantine.

This article is from 2015 and my wife who’s in healthcare says Coronavirus 229E is like a common cold. Not what we are dealing with right now

You have to keep a 1 meter separation to prevent transfer. That's about 1 trombone slide, even in 1st position.

Bagpipes would probably be more effective.

I prefer six full positions. Seven I don't reach too well.

Protection or Propagation?
I think the trombone was originally developed as a tool for the distribution of viruses... I figure we can probably float the virus as least 40 feet...
It was just a bonus that it turned out to sound soooo nice.
