I feel like its something curtis made himself can anyone tell me anything about it?

Looks like a Kangol softone with custom cutouts.

Homemade, it's just a piece of felt with cutouts. I saw him use it on a concert once.

Thanks that's what I was thinking, I think I'm going to try and recreate one of my own do you know if he used anything to hold it on the bell or if the felt had enough traction?

I've used a wool beret (available very cheap on eBay) for the same purpose. (And can be very colorful, too.) Hangs on the the bell quite effectively. Never tried cutouts – don't seem necessary. Effect is sort of like a less muffled Softone mute. Adds fun (visual and audio) to any gig.
