Doug elliot moutpieces

Post by victor »

Hello everyone. I am considering getting a Doug Elliot moutpiece. My current moutpiece is the Schilke 51 which I am very satisfied with its sound, response, projection. But not so much of its comfort. What cup Elliot would give me everything I like about the Schilke LT or XT. And what is a more comfortable support a 101 maybe?
Thank you all.

Why? Send him a mail. He can help you via Skype or even based on some pictures of you playing.

Doug may be busy, but he should eventually read this post.

There is an equivalence chart on his Web site. He also offers a few different rim shapes that may feel better than the Schilke (which I find too round).

I play Elliott LT (and LB) cups. They work for me. But everybody's different.

I look at Trombone Chat every day... You can talk to me right here.

For a 51 equivalent you have a choice between two series, LT and XT. 51's are usually a lot larger than the specs would indicate, so I would usually recommend the XT series if you're a strong player. But if the 51 feels like too much work especially in the high range, the LT series is a better choice.

So after making the choice of which series, you might want to try 101 or 102, and a G cup and G8 shank as a good starting point.

You said "I am very satisfied with its sound, response, projection" but not comfort. Can you be more specific?

First of all thank Doug for his answers and his time. Well, what I want to say is that the lip support is what I have always liked least about the Schilke. I like a little more rounded supports. On the other hand and speaking of sensations I have always had the perception that in Schilke 51 everything is far away. I don't know if I explain myself well.
Thank you
