Anyone Heard Of Montreal Mouthpieces?

Post by Driswood »

I'm selling a Montreal L-S large shank mouthpiece in the classifieds for a friend. I've never seen one before, and can't find anything about it online.

The cup is plastic, mated to an aluminum shank. This thing is LIGHT!! It's large shank. I don't have calipers, but it appears to be 5G size.

Any information would be appreciated.

Is it clear plastic? If so, I'm pretty sure it's one of a line of mouthpieces designed by former Montreal Symphony Tuba player Ellis Wean (sp?). Ellis made a set of mouthpieces for Trumpet, Horn, Trombone and Tuba (just a size or two for each) to study embouchures at work. They were used in conjunction with a spray that would keep them from fogging up, and with slow motion filming to study how the chops work. I remember that there was a 5G copy in that line for large tenor, and there may have been a 1.5G for bass trombone. There was at least one small shank model too. Some of the brass professionals in Montreal were using them in their teaching, back in the early/mid 80's.
