I should say now that I just retired after 40 years as a musical instrument repairman and still have a shop in my home state of Ohio. Right now I'm down in FL for the winter. I've been asked to cover the bass bone book in an 18 piece. So I bought an inexpensive Conn 50H knowing that the clearance between the slide and bell rim was stupid close! For the short term I put a little bit of a banana bend in the bell body. Not pretty, but it works.
I'm looking for suggestions on how to permanently create clearance between the slide and bell rim that cosmetically looks good. I'll be taking the bell off to do dent work so the sky's the limit. Let the ideas flow.

The Olds R-20 (Recording with F) is also a narrow slide with an 8.5" bell. Olds put a dogleg in the neckpipe. It's not that noticeable on the Olds because it's right at the valve.

IIRC 78H/79H slides are a bit wider than the 50H slide. Maybe see if DJ has one available as an option.
