Marcinkiewicz history?

Post by pompatus »

Im trying to get an idea of the age of a couple of Marcinkiewicz mouthpieces I have in my collection, but can’t really find anything of their history online. I know they’re current made in Oregon, but I have two that say Glendale, CA and I think I may have seen some in the past that said Los Angeles, CA.

Does anyone know when they moved factories, or a way to guesstimate their age? Many thanks.

Don't forget about Burbank!

I can't help with the history... but I can say that all the Marc mouthpieces I have played were great!

Burbank! That’s the other stamp I remember seeing, not LA. My mistake.

Call them up and ask them. They are approachable and will tell you their history.

This turned out the be a great suggestion. Thanks, ssking2b. I sent an email, and was offered a couple of very helpful replies from Graham Middleton, who may also be a member here. It's really nice when a company is so approachable. So, thanks all!

Here's the history that I've pieced together from the Marcinkiewicz info on their website, and their helpful email response:
  • 1965 - Joe Marcinkiewicz begins brass instrument repair
  • 1973 - Mouthpiece design studies begin with Burt Herrick
  • 1980 - Beginning of garage shop in Tujunga, CA
  • 1983-84(ish) - Shop moves to Glendale, CA
  • 1987 - Shop moves to Burbank, CA and name changes from Marcinkiewicz Music Products to Marcinkiewicz Co. Inc
  • 1993 - Shop moves to Canby, OR
