-------

Scott Laskey, mouthpiece maker and character extraordinaire has passed. He suffered a cancer induced stroke on July, 3rd, and his condition worsened over time. He died in hospice care and suffered no pain or anxiety.

Sad news indeed. We went to college together, and he worked on several mouthpieces for me - one I've been playing for 33 years. RIP

That is disappointing to hear.

I knew him only for his mouthpieces but I have one that I like and am glad he made such a thing.

Is there a mouthpiece business that continues on after him or was it all him?

He gave an interview with the Monster Oil Brass Chats series shortly before he passed away. Well worth watching!

This is from the Laskey family on Facebook:
In response to mouthpiece authenticity:

It has come to our attention that a company is attempting to sell mouthpieces that are based on Laskey designs. In response to recent inquiries, we would like to make it very clear that these are not authentic Laskey mouthpieces and the marketing of them as such is not authorized by The Laskey Company.

Authentic Laskey Company mouthpieces are the result of over forty years of my husband Scott’s experience – researching materials and the physics of music, plus working with the top players in the industry to determine just what made them the best. He first started by making individual mouthpieces by hand, which then resulted in the Laskey line of mouthpieces now produced on automated lathes guided by Scott’s own design programs.

The Future of the Laskey Company:

My son, Alex, and I would like to continue the Laskey legacy of genuine mouthpieces as they were originally manufactured. We are considering serious proposals for the purchase of the Laskey Company, including the programs, all the original equipment and supplies used to produce the genuine Laskey product, some inventory in progress, as well as the shop near Chicago where everything is all set up. Included in this sale would be the trademarked Laskey brand and reputation that my husband dedicated his life to build. There is also an international network of authorized dealers. For more information, please contact me at [email protected] or my son, Alex, at [email protected]

Sincerely,
Susan Stockton Laskey
