As I recall, there were two different Clarke models; Large and Small. The Large is the one the 6½AL is based on.

I had the folks over at Pickett copy Sam Burtis' Clark S. Great piece. Give them a ring, I bet they still have the measurements on file.

Brass Ark / bob reeves do copies of these...I believe the small shank version was based off Sam Burtis’ Clarke S, amongst others.

I have this piece and it’s great...I’m assuming the large shank version is based of an original Clarke L

Are we talking about the Conn Clarke? or a Bach Clarke?

Someone else can probably give more detail, but it's Allie Clarke, who was a player in the 1930s.

from the old forum, Steve Dillon said this:

Conn-Clark-about the size of a Bach 6 ½ AL. As a matter of fact, in a 1956 Bach mouthpiece catalog we find “6 ½ A (Clarke Model), 6 ½ AL (Clarke large)” Could this mouthpiece have been named after Allie Clark, formerly with the NY Philharmonic, Chicago Grand Opera and Cleveland Symphony? I had always thought it was named after Ernest Clarke, Herbert Clarke’s brother. The spelling of the name is like Ernest, but I find Allie using both spellings. I also have a letter written to Burkle in the mid 20’s, from Allie, talking about the new mouthpieces that were being made for him by Conn.
