How many years a slide lub bottle stay good?

Post by mickael57280 »

Hi, I would know how many years do you think a slide lub bottle can be put on a shelf and stay good, usable?

Because slide lub is very cheap on some websites but shipping cost is a problem if a order just one or two bottles.

If I order 5 it's much better.

Thank you

Depends.

I have a 15 year old tube of Trombotine that is as good as new.

Some lubes tend to separate and you need to "reconstitute". Sometimes by shaking and sometimes it needs something more.

I've heard tales of Slide-O-Mix going bad if stored hot.

Hope this helps.

In my experience slide o mix goes off if exposed to high temperatures for a few hours, but otherwise lasts a year or two. I prefer yammie snot, it seems quite resilient.

I use UltraPure. I use it as a "refresher" on Trombotine (or cold cream) but it works great by itself as well.

I have had no problems with it going "bad", but I haven't had it for that long either.

I've had both Slide-O-Mix and Yamaha Slide Lube "go bad" (they get runny, and lose their viscosity and lubricity) when exposed to high temperatures (like leaving them in the car in warm weather).

I'm now leaving new bottles in the refrigerator, and dispensing small amounts into even smaller bottles for "field use." Not sure whether this helps, but I hope so! :idk:

It had better. How would you replace it if you finished it? ;)

The Yamaha SLO2 (in the 'purple' label bottle) will clot over time if not shaken regularly. Then what comes out of the bottle when you try to apply is nothing, or very thin and pretty useless. It's great stuff when fresh, but I would not buy 5 bottles of it (again).

Ultrapure seems more reasonable for bulk buing, but not as good in practical use.

Trombotine lasts a long time, but if you were to buy 5 tubes you'd be old and decrepit before using half of it. A little goes a long way - and its's great stuff if you want to spend the time to apply it. The newer your horn, the less you need to use.

The Yamaha purple bottle last at least a year, but I only use it once a week. I bought 4 at once when I travelled. I only keep in it and use it from the fridge. I only keep slideomix and Yamaha cream as backup in the bag. However this is for the older horn I use. Somebody sold me trombotine (which is most sensitive to heat) for the old horn (which I also keep in fridge), but I prefer the Yamaha bottle on both as I don’t feel and hear any scratching. Cars probably use more lubricants, one could look at what is happening there as well especially in relation viscosity and optimum efficiency versus price.
