NO jazz fest

Post by baileyman »

It's day one. Lotsa guitars. Lotsa singers. Lotsa rhythm. Ain't no trombones yet.

For some reason the observation seems to belong in "business of music".

You are describing modern popular music. Lots of gee-tars and lots of singers. Add piano, drums, and a bass gee-tar and you have the ensemble.

I hate those twangy electrical tings

Pop music hasn't been guitar dominated in years.

Sounds like a jazz fest in Houston: Anything not 'country and western' is considered to be jazz. In NO, I would think that you would hear a lot of NO style trad.

My take on Jazzfest, as a 26 year veteran of living in a New Orleans suburb and going to Jazzfest frequently, is it's progressing to be a lot less about "Jazz" and a lot more about "Fest". That's o.k. but the original name is pretty misleading... For the best chance to see/hear some great trombone talent, hang out between the "Blues" stage and the "Jazz" tent.

Both kinds of music! Country AND Western.

I love some good C&W, but most of the modern stuff is crap. I like Willie, Asleep at the Wheel, Johnny Cash, Lyle Lovett, etc.

I love Asleep, because they really swing! Just like the old Bob Wills bands did in the past!

And, Willie is a fantastic song writer!

I didnt go to Jazz and Boos but I heard about the incident. The general feeling was that she was lip-syncing and did not wish it to be obvious.
