Stiffer spring source for Getzen 3047?
Just finished the Fall concert season. Our Spring season starts in January and I was hoping to find a stiffer replacement spring for the thayer valve on my Getzen 3047AFR. During intermission of our Christmas choir concert I got to try out my friend's Edwards Alessi horn and I was amazed how much stiffer the spring was on his Rotax. I'd like to get the same level of spring tension on my horn.
Does anyone sell or make stiffer springs for my horn?
Thanks in advance!

Are you looking for a stiffer spring or just better valve return action? I suspect the latter.
Thayer valves require a lot of maintenance and you should be putting light oil in the tubes every time you play it. Also, as the valve wears you need to have it "calibrated" (adjusting the position of the rotor to match bearing wear). This is not a do-it-yourself job.
You may also be seeing some binding in the lever arms. The Thayer requires a lot of fancy movement to operate compared to a conventional rotor design like the Rotax.
Is this your instrument or the school's? If the latter you need to talk to the BD about having it serviced. If it's yours, have a good tech give it a look-over.

Then he needs to have a good tech give it a once-over. Anybody in Central Florida?

I think the spring tension is adjustable on those. Take it to a good tech.

Since the spring tension seems to be adjustable on that horn I would try that first. If that does't work there are people who make stiffer springs for and they can be especially useful on thayer valve instruments.
