king slide with springs

Post by tbonepreacher »

What is the purpose of the springs in my King 4b slide?
Should I tune with the springs compressed or not?
Thanks for your help!

The springs, common to all newer King large bores, are intended to allow a little room to sharpen some 1st position notes, notably D4 (above the bass staff). They also serve as a shock absorber if you ram the slide home. You tune with the slide just touching the springs.
