Holton 156 - $500

Post by Mparunak »

Just acquired a beautiful Holton 156 for $500 locally in NC. What is everyone's experience/thoughts on this horn? It plays well, really free blowing and resonate.

Definitely a steal at $500.

Does it have a single bore or dual bore slide? I found the intonation of the dual bore to be sketchy, especially in the upper register.

It’s a single bore, upper register feels fairly consistent in slurs and etudes.

I had one in the late 80s that I only used for orchestra. It was great for that. Not sure what else I would have used it for. Mine was dual bore, 9" bell. Super powerfull. Don't remember the intonation being a problem , I only kept it for a year.
