Weird fluke

So yesterday in Bremen I played Bruckner's Requiem on romantic German trombones. It's a pretty obscure and rarely-performed work, one of his youth compositions where he was exploring styles, learning, and honing his craft, but it's a really beautiful piece with nice trombone part. Scoring is soloists, choir, strings and three trombones (and one horn in just the Benedictus, originally probably played by the bass trombonist).

Now, I had also previously conducted it several years ago in Montreal. Right before the concert yesterday it occurred to me that it must have been in 2014 (I first thought it was 2015) that I conducted it, and it was also around the middle of autumn. I went to check old Facebook posts and it turns out, it was 15 November 2014. This is a piece that most people will have never performed in their lives. I've now done it twice, which is already surprising, but what are the odds that the second time I've done that rare piece was exactly 10 years to the day after the first time!?

I seem to remember playing that with a Bruckner-loving conductor many decades ago.
I thought it was wonderful at the time; have never heard it played since.

I have done that piece recently on bass trombone. I played the horn part on bass trombone. Very nice music!

We did it with the alto trombone playing the horn part and me taking over the first trombone part for that movement.

Yes great music, if at times held back and leaving you a bit hungry for more (lots of little moments of genius that he then doesn't explore or develop further). The Quam olim fugue in particular is really masterful. And the Sequenz being all one long movement has a nice balance between variety and unity.
