Trombone with Nude holding World: Identification

Post by spinakis »

Hello everyone,
I bought this Concert Trombone. Can anyone help to identify it? A beautifule nude is carrying the World on the bell, but there is no company name.

Thank you!

Matthias

The arrangement of bell braces and the large ferrule along the bell spout reminds me of French instruments from the late 19th/early 20th century. Could be a stencil…

Do you have other pics, like of the slide? Are there any other identifying marks on the horn, like serial numbers?

The engraving looks a little sloppy or childish from the pictures. If you could provide more and better pics of both the bell and the slide, maybe a serial number, that would facilitate any identification.

Until I see more, I'd guess it's a copy of a horn made in the late 19th, very early 20th century. Had it been an original, I don't think the engraving would have been "WORLD" in overlapping, slightly sloppy lettering. If, but really saying if, it is an original instrument, it must have been restored and refinished.

Thank you to both of you. I think it is an original and old instrument. The metal is very massive. There is no serial neither on the instrument nor on the case. The tuning slide and the slide cannot be turned, since both hve different diameter on each side. Maybe the engraving was made later? Here are more detailed pictures.

Looks kind of like the trombone in the "problem with trombonists" thread...

HIgham certainly made trombones with an S-shaped bell brace, and with a trumpet-style water key. I see that some of the first images were from a Vodafone device and the image numbering is in German. Not conclusive, but certainly
suggestive. That said, s-shaped braces were not uncommon at one time, nor were trumpet-style water keys.

The bell-brace looks similar indeed, but I think there are more companies with s-shaped models.
Maybe some other details help to identify the instrument.

Greetings, Matthias

Horn-u-copia features an early Hüller & Co World trumpet with a straight brace and a naked lady, a feature that was made famous by C.G.Conn.

And here's a F.X. Hüller World Luxus, beautifully decorated and also with the naked lady.

Wow! Very similiar, but also quite different. I guess one is inspired by the other or there is a model they have in common.

Can anyone comment on the screw locking the slide?
