Stainless: Kelly 'Bass-Bone' vs Giddings&Webster 'Mark 1'?

Post by LeoInFL »

I'm currently using a Bach 1 1/4G with my Olds bass and I'm interested in stainless steel version. G&W straight-up says their Mark 1 is equivalent, but on the Kelly website they're a little less specific (the rim diameter seems really close but the rest of the info is rather vague).

If you've owned these 2 mouthpieces at some point, I'd be interested to learn how they compare to the Bach 1 1/4G I use.

Thanks in advance!

I found the mark 1 to be more 1 1/2 sized and kind of bright... I don't miss it.

I quite like the Mark 1 even though I’ve been daily driving either a DE or a Chinook. The Giddings pieces share a trait with the Monettes/Warburtons that I really prefer; the “targets” for each note are really low on each partial.

One thing to note on the Mark 1 is that the rim shape is really weird- the highest point on the rim is on the outer edge, and then it slopes downward toward the cup. This makes the rim size feel a tiny bit larger than the printed 28, but definitely nowhere near 28.5.
