Bass Trombone Method Book?
My daughter was playing 3rd trombone in her high school symphonic band playing a small bore Bb trombone. I told her to ask the Musical Director to borrow a Bb/F so she could play all the low notes.
She came home with a Shires Q36YR Bass Trombone. Bb/F/Gb/D tuning.
Can someone recommend a method book that explains the slide position options using the different trigger options and exercises to reinforce them.

I know there are newer ones, but I've used the Ostrander "F-Attachment and Bass Trombone" as an introduction to the F valve and then Alan Raph's "The Double Valve Bass Trombone" to learn the 2nd valve.
There's also a lot of good material on Doug Yeo's Web Site (www.yeodoug.com).

Thanks for the suggestions.
The yeodoug.con is an amazing, comprehensive resource. Interestingly, Doug references the Eliezer Aharoni : New Method for Bass Trombone book in his FAQ section.

The Aharoni book is great, but it's better suited to an advanced student. Some of the bass trombonists may disagree with me, but I would start a student just learning the bass trombone with concentrating on the F valve and then slowly introducing the 2nd valve. Too many choices all at once could be confusing for them.

The George Roberts/Paul Tanner book, "Let's Play Bass Trombone" might be a good place to start. I found it on SCRIBD available to download as a PDF.

This is exactly what I would do! Really get the F valve down first. And go from there.CalgaryTbone wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 1:28 pm

I have downloaded the George Roberts/Paul Tanner book, "Let's Play Bass Trombone".
We will work mastering the F valve first.
Thanks for the inputs everyone. I appreciate you all freely sharing your knowledge.

Lew Gillis Progressive Studies is another good beginner to intermediate book to learn bass trombone.

Yes ,Aharoni is really good, but maybe a bit of an overkill. It took me one year of daily practice to get through the booksacfxdx wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 6:37 am Try this.

There’s Brad Edwards’s book, too.
