Anyone hip to this band? This is from the first album of theirs that I collected, thanks to a recommendation from a good friend. This track starts with some 'bone sectional stuff. Definitely a fun and different take to large ensemble jazz writing. And the engineering on this album sounds fantastic.

I dig it! On the first few measures I thought: "that guy should write competition pieces for brass band!".

Haha I didn't get that thought but I can see how you got there.SwissTbone wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 12:56 pm I dig it! On the first few measures I thought: "that guy should write competition pieces for brass band!".
This does strike me as being potentially difficult music to "dial in" as it requires everyone to be very rhythmically accurate and to have the same concept of "groove".
Also of note: Dick Oatts and Randy Brecker sound phenomenal on this album.
