Slide vib is nice anyway, and in this context it's the option most musically/mechanically analogous to string vib, so why not!

Doug, is CV a MHP with a more-horizontal-than-vertical pivot - unless the video angle is confusing me - or a VHP whose P just happens not to appear VH?

Exactly. He's a IIIB in Reinhardt terms, and his pivot is almost horizontal. That is what stabilizes everything and helps his playing to be so smooth - you don't see him drastically dropping his jaw or anything like that. It's a pretty large amount of motion but it's very consistent and smooth.

I like his playing so much. Also his humor and human attitude. There is some teaching videos somewhere on the net with him. We can learn a little bit about the Chicago "Song and wind" way". I can't say I understand all but some of it is to have an image of what you want to sound like. Anyway, it's beautiful what he do, and in the orchestra it's amazing. Thats definitely teamwork. I don't know much about embouchure Doug, but he has a lot more of lower lip inside the mouthpiece? And yes he moves a lot. And sound fantastic!

It’s a great reminder to let your body move to where the note is most resonant, and that position may not be where the textbook says.
