Just wanted to mention that this month’s Smithsonian Mag had a great feature story on Kid Ory - life and career.

Cool to see a "popular" magazine cover Ory. I'm not a huge fan of Smithsonian in general - they have a weird emphasis on biographing the researcher, which seems nice, but in a way that distracts from the research itself. I would expect that if this article were typical, it would talk as much about the person researching Ory as Ory.

I know what you mean - but this actually had none of that as I recall. It was more of a primer than a progress update on an active archival project.
