Carbon Fiber Trombone STAND

Has anyone used the WWD carbon fiber trombone stand that stores in the bell of a horn? The Horn Guys sell them, but alas, they are out of them now...but re-ordering them! I am on the list to be notified when they come in. I'm not so much interested in storing it in the bell of my horn, rather, I am interested in small and lite for mute bag.

So - comments, reviews, ???

I tried one at IWBC. Seemed pretty neat. Definitely for a smaller horn rather than a larger one.

If I needed to always have a tiny stand with me I would think about it.

I have one. Use it my bass trombone. It’s really light!

If I have a gig with a lot of foot traffic around me, I bring my Sheridan stand.

I never heard of this before this post. Holy crap! I just check out this review video on youtube and am really impressed with the stand.

Is this really $150? What a great idea, but too rich for my blood!

It actually holds up a bass? That one in the video looks too anemic to hold a bass. I got nervous just seeing him put the small tenor on it!

I'm not really sure as why to buy this over a stand that you can store in your bell. Just seem more expensive for no great gain.

I love mine. One less thing to carry from the car. This stand works well due to its design rather than it's weight. It was certainly a splurge to purchase...not cheap. Nothing I'd rather spend my money on than quality music gear.

Seems like a lot of$$ compared to others on the market these days. For small horns the Hercules work very well for 1/3 of the price of the Carbon Fiber.

It's so small and dainty... I'd be a little queasy if my bass trombone was sitting on that...

I think I'd buy 3 K&M 14990 stands before splurging for just one of these.

The video is worth a watch just to check out the guy's outfit. He looks like he got his clothing advice from Rodney Dangerfield in Caddy Shack. And I like the fact that the stand will work "even after a few beers."

Really nicely done.

Gijs can improve it a bit more by adding a fifth leg quite easily.

The price seems more than fair, especially since I know well what it takes to modify aluminum stands to work for trombones. There is not really a living wage in that price.

When trombone is your gig, why carp about expense for good quality accesories? I'm interested just because it exists! People said the same thing $$Wise' about the Aida trombone stand I have used for years. I want what works well. Cost is a secondary thought.

Totally agree. I've been using the Aida for years. A long time ago I used the Stand-in and never had a problem with it until it broke and wouldn't hold the legs in.

I plan to get one of these. The light weight and in-bell storage are big advantages to me.

And I don't drink beer so that won't be a problem.

I've had one for a few months now and I like it. Lighter and more compact than my Aida, which is also good.

The CF stand when collapsed fits far enough into my Lawler bell stem that it fits in the Lawler flat gig bag - can't get much smaller and lighter than that. When in use it seems nicely balanced and solid.

Stand arrived today at noon. Took 5 minutes to figure out proper settings for my bell. This version is just for tenor trombone, and is engineered a little differently, using tight tentioned O rings to create the friction needed to hold pieces in place. It's better than the screws on the one shown on YouTube and requires no tools to adjust properly.

I used it on a 2 hour big band rehearsal this afternoon. It was an absolute champ! Much oohing and aahhing from the rest of the bone section...and they were fascinated watching me taking it down and storing it in the bell when I put my horn in the case. It's expensive, but delivers as promised!

FYI there is no cover on the very bottom where the legs nest. This wasn't a problem at all. You could cover it with a bit of wire channel gaffer's tape if you wanted to do so. Not really necessary. Doug, you will love it. It only weighs one pound! And very well balanced used correctly! Just enough tilt to center the weight of the horn, but not enough to be a bother.

I can now say after almost 2 months of using this stand on lot of gigs - it's great! I am using it on my XO 1632 tenor bone. Have not tried it on a heavier f attachment horn...But I do most of my tenor work on the 500 bore horn, and that is the one I wanted it for. For me, this was definitely worth the money!!

Every friday I feel like should have been born a mule.. First teaching three students, then conducting the local youth band and then playing my bass trombone in the community orchestra. Only one room change, but i would be very happy to leave my (sturdy, but heavy!) K&M bass trombone stand at home and would be willing to pay a premium for that.

So the Carbon Fiber Bass Trombone stand finally got here. They are hand made in the Netherlands, so it takes a while. Have been using it for about 3 weeks (mostly at home now since the pandemic has put us all out of work) and I can say it is different than the tenor trombone stand. Heavier to accommodate the bass bone. So far it is working GREAT!

The Ironic part is you guys can buy one at about two thirds the price in the States than I can in The Netherlands off of his own website! Thats on top of shipping as well. I'd get one before the price escalates!

These bags (1.75L size) also make gentle mutes (think Softone light) and colorful decorations when hung over the bell of a small-bore trombone. I have two of them (gifts from friends who consume the product) – one in purple and one in green. Audiences love them!

What’s the point of that?

You don’t go to McDonalds and try to buy just the happy meal toy.

You have to earn that extra bag to stuff full of valve oils and tuning slide greases.

As of this morning, I have acquired 2 Crown Royal bags for use in things trombone. I will have to use up the current contents. (Some would consider the contents to be lubrication of a sort.) I like my whisky neat. I propose to be finished and ready to move on to my trombone case in a week or two. Comments? Suggestions? Mixers? Ice?

Yeah, but single malts don't come in cool cloth bags.

Added benefit: the bag placed over your bell acts as a face mask

Yes I like single malt scotch and have a very respectable colletion of it. As a friend of mine said, it is made to be consumed, so I do. I have NAS whiskys thru 25 year olds. But I also like bourbon, rye, and other whiskys. I have a bottle of George Washington's recipe Rye Whisky that is only available for purchase at Mt Vernon - VA not NY!

I like my instruments and my Whisky to be exceptional! And if a whisky doesn't taste good neat and unadulterated, it's not worth it to me to use it in a mixer either! Ok, Ok, enough of the Whisky snobbery for me!

The 2019 manual shows the first design for the carbon tenor/bass trombone stand. Feedback of users and mercands lead to some adaptations, the most important being separate models for tenor, bass and contrabass trombones.

Thanks, In my opinion there is enough grey, beige and black in the world, especially with all those carbon trombone stands....

After reading a lot about the stand here on the forum, I have now also ordered one for my bass trombone. The stand is much more stable than expected and it is the first stand I know that fits into a Marcus Bonna screw bell case (in addition to the best brass warm up mute).

I like it!

I like it!

This is also how I use/pack it, the bonna cut case if packed well seems to have the capacity of a clown car
