Shires tenon thread

Post by mearldanner »

Does any one know the diameter and thread pitch for a Shires .547 slide.

I have a straight neckpipe that won't mate properly to the slide (valve unit mates fine). It seems to have some rough threads and I'd like to get a tap to smooth them up.

It would probably be cheaper to have a tech do the work than buy a tap of that size. Also, you will not be able to tap the nut properly while it is installed on the neckpipe- you'll wind up tapping the tenon.

Also for what it's worth, that part - at least a few years ago - was not that expensive. Like I want to say the whole unit, including the brazed piece that holds the brace, was like $30 or something. It would require two solder points though.
